I have always wondered where my first Bromagem ancestor in america came from. This surname has over 200 hundred spelling variations and has been found for over 300 years in Colonial America and the United States of America. Spelling variations range from Birmingham, Bermingham, Burmingham, Bromingham, Bromaghim, Bromaghin, Bromagim, Bromagin, Bromagem, Bromagen, Brumingham, Brumagem, Brumagen, Brumegim, Brumegin, Brumogim, Brumogin, Brumigim, Brumigin and many other spelling combinations.
Bromagem has it's beginnings in Birmingham, England. The word was Beormaham pronounced bear ma ham. Which meant home of the Beorma clan/tribe. It evolved to Bromagem, etc. Birmingham was known as Brummagem.
